Latest data on UK civil space expenditure released

BNSC has released data showing the expenditure across the UK civil space programme during financial year 2008/09. This shows an increased spend of £268M compared with £239M in 2007/2008.

BNSC is able to assemble this data only at the end of a financial year, because some spend is related to 'responsive mode' grant awards by STFC (Science & Technology Facilities Council) to the space science community in competition with other areas of its research.

In addition, and for the first time, BNSC has also provided an estimate of funding secured by universities and industry through the European Union Framework research programme in the areas of space science and technology. UK organisations are expected to secure 25M of funding in the first two calls in the FP7 space thematic area for such areas as advanced propulsion, GMES applications and planetary robotics.
