CryoSat-2 launch successful

CryoSat-2 was launched on Thursday 8 April 2010 at 14.57 GMT, on a Dnepr rocket (an intercontinental ballistic missile) from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan.

Its role in Earth Observation will be to help determine whether arctic ice masses are thinning due to global warming.
