Dear Learning Zone user,
We are planning major updates and improvements to the Learning Zone because we
know that some parts of it are not as up to date or accurate as we would like.
Meanwhile, we hope that you still find it useful and exciting. If you have any
queries or suggestions, please contact us on
bnscinfo@bnsc.gsi.gov.uk.

This section looks at the 'Big Bang' theory, which explains how the Universe started and where the stars and planets come from.
Planet Earth
These were the first words ever spoken by a man in space. Yuri Gagarin was just 27 years old when he became the first person to see our planet from the Russian rocket Vostok on 12th April 1962.
Babylonians - the earliest known astronomers - mapped the stars, believing that their fortunes were influenced by the patterns and positions they studied. They also gave us the 12 signs of the Zodiac that we still use today.
The Learning Zone is designed to support teaching and learning across the whole curriculum.
Over 15,000 people work in the space industry. Find out how you could become one of them.
